[Video Game Music Spotlight]: Nier – Song of the Ancients

This week we have our first background music song. Nier has some really amazing vocal tracks included in its BGM and Song of the Ancients is one of them; it’s sung in a completely fictional language! Nier’s soundtrack is so well done it even has its own Wikipedia page, as well as at least 4 different CD releases, so I figured I may as well share it.

Pretty cool! It kinda sounds like Russian… not that I really know what Russian sounds like. That singer is fairly awesome as well.

For some reason, I got the remix version of this song. And I didn’t even play the game, I want to play the version with the younger protagonist though, which isn’t localized sadly.

From the googling i’ve just done I believe that the younger version of Nier is only playable as DLC in addition to the main game. So in theory you would have to play the original game anyway. I’ve got a review for it coming up in the future.

      • Kai says:

Never knew about the DLC, but I’m talking about Nier Replicant^^” There’s two versions of Nier games, Nier Gestalt and Nier Replicant, the former is the original with an elderly man while the latter features a younger version. *a bit of spoilers* Their relation to Yonah is also different, while for Gestalt, Yonah is Nier’s daughter and in Replicant, Yonah is Nier’s sister instead^^”
