Hey there folks! In place of this week’s review i’ve been working on a list of Visual Novel recommendations to help out anyone who’s at a loss for what to read or where to start. Incidentally, it also happens to include a list of my top ten favorite VNs for those of you who have been asking.
There’s a link at the top of the page, but here’s a another one for good measure!
My favourites in the genre would have to be Katawa Shoujo, Virtue’s Last Reward and Danganronpa. What sucks about visual novels is that many of them don’t get officially released over here.
I’m a little on the fence about playing Virtue’s Last Reward since I didn’t particularly enjoy 999, but those other two I definitely have to agree with.
It’s a shame that we don’t get to see many official releases, but not a surprise giving how small the Western market would be. Thankfully, there are some absolutely amazing fan translators out there, and Mangagamer is picking up steam as an official translator (though they translate more than story-based visual novels =/)
If you’re after officially translated visual novels that are worth playing, I would point you towards Aselia the Eternal (there’s a review on Moar Powah, I believe), Corpse Party, Dengeki Stryker (or the other OVERDRIVE titles) or Kara no Shoujo.
